Heat pumps effectively circulate heat rather than generate it. Therefore, they can provide heat in the winter and offer cooling in the summer. Your refrigerator pulls heat from inside and blows the warm air out the bottom of the unit. Heat pumps work on the same principle: to heat, they absorb heat from outside (even when it’s really cold) and move it inside the home. In summer, they can absorb heat inside the home and move it outside so you stay cool. This is an additional benefit, even in regions with more temperate climates, because summers are getting warmer!
